CHOREN supplies modern coal burner technology to China

CHOREN Components obtains coveted manufacture licence – delivery of specialised industrial equipment has begun

Freiberg, April 2009

CHOREN Components GmbH, a part of the CHOREN Group of Freiberg in
Germany, is currently supplying modern burner technology and pressure-bearing
equipment for coal processing to the People’s Republic of China. The burners, each weighing up to 1.6 metric tonnes, will form a core part of a new plant in Southern China for the production of high-purity synthesis gas with an output capacity of 140,000 cubic metres per hour, using CHOREN’s highly efficient CCG gasification process.

The complex coal processing plant’s final product is ammonia, which the factory will
produce as a base chemical component for fertilisers at an annual capacity of
500,000 metric tonnes.
Absolutely essential for the delivery to go ahead was the manufacture licence issued to CHOREN in 2008 by the Chinese inspection authorities. Since China’s accession to the WTO, this strict licensing procedure has been in force for specific imported goods such as boilers and pressure vessels. “At the end of 2008, Chinese specialists thoroughly scrutinised our production operations in Freiberg”, reports Olaf Schulze, Managing Director at CHOREN. “The successful audit finally paved the way for us to carry through our first large-scale order of this kind from China.”
CHOREN Technologies GmbH was responsible for the engineering layout, configuration and design of the equipment components. The dust and pilot burners as well as pneumatic dust conveying equipment were manufactured and extensively tested at CHOREN Components GmbH.
In an especially developed test rig, ignition tests were successfully carried out under
service conditions. The main criteria were flame stability and the reliability of the electric ignition process.

The company CHOREN Components GmbH is ISO 9001 certified and manufactures
thermal apparatus, pressure equipment and burner technology, as well as conveying
and pressure lock systems for bulk materials. CHOREN Technologies GmbH designs
industrial plants featuring integrated solids gasification with services including process and engineering design.

Background

The Chinese manufacture licence
The licensing rules and procedures are laid down in the "Supervision Administration Regulation for
Manufacture of Boiler and Pressure Vessel". In the licensing process, the manufacturer must demonstrate that the delivery will comply with Chinese safety and quality requirements. Only when the licence has been granted, is the manufacturer authorised to export the product to the People’s Republic of China.
