Process Engineer

Summary

This unique position will offer the opportunity to work on the leading edge of gasification and renewable fuel technologies presenting the chance to take part in shaping the renewable energy market in the US.

This position will provide process engineering expertise in support of the design, permitting, operation, maintenance, and optimization of CHOREN USA gasification and renewable energy plants in the Americas.

As part of the CHOREN USA team, the candidate will work in a small, internationally diverse team and will have the opportunity to travel to Freiberg, Germany, for limited training and commissioning experience in the world’s first commercial BtL plant located at CHOREN Industries’ headquarters. During that training this position will also provide process design experience in the front-end phase of a “Sigma” BtL facility (600 MWth) in Schwedt, Germany.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Thermo-Chemical Process Development, including:

• Evaluation and selection of processes
• Calculation and analysis of process mass and enthalpy balances
• Development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (PID), Process Flow Diagrams, Piping Diagrams, and all other drawings necessary to support plant construction
• Development of plant instrumentation and control systems

  • Vessel, Component, and Process Design, including:

• Preparation of conceptual design of vessels, components, and instruments
• Virtual modeling using standard industry software
• Calculation and analysis of computational fluid dynamics utilizing Fluent
• Design and optimization of process engineering components and processes
• Development of process operations (i.e. startup and shutdown procedures, cyclical and continuous operation flows, and maintenance operations)

  • Plant Operations, including:

• Planning and preparation of pilot and commercial scale plant operations
• Monitoring, evaluation, and documentation of plant operations and outputs
• Writing trial and laboratory reports

German language schooling will be provided and is not a prerequisite.

Minimum Requirements

  • MS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in either process engineering, gasification, or fuel synthesis is desirable
  • 3 to 5 years of process engineering related experience or equivalent practical experience from PhD or Thesis work
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is desired but not required
  • Experience in planning and operations of process engineering plants
  • Proficiency in industry standard software packages, including Fluent, Pro/II, and CAD
  • Ability to provide technical guidance on complex issues
  • Ability to travel internationally
