CHOREN Coal Gasification (CCG®)
CCG® technology is based on a process used for many years to gasify coal for production of a high-purity, energy-rich synthesis gas.
Unlike the Carbo-V® process, which allows the use of biomass pieces, the CCG® process uses raw materials in dust form (special biomass dusts or coal dusts) or liquid materials (e.g. slurries or pyrolysis oils).
The synthesis gas is a source material for the production of conventional synthesis gas products, such as hydrogen, methanol or ammonia; it is also used to produce fuels (diesel, methane) and can be used for electrical power production.
Combining the gasification of dry pulverized coal at high operating pressure with water quenching and a multi-burner design yields the following advantages:
- High synthesis gas quality: CO + H2 > 90 %, no aromatics, tars, phenols or condensates
- Very high feedstock variability: hard coal, lignite, various types of biomass (suitably preconditioned)
- Use of low-quality coals with ash content of up to 35 %
- Low capital costs due to compact design and optimized water quenching
- Low operating costs
- High flexibility with quick start-up and shutdown
- High plant availability (> 80 %) due to simple and robust design
